Escape London - Fighting All Odds to Get to the King's Throne

"When you play the game of thrones, you win or you die."
- Cersei, Game of Thrones

Well, we came out alive and well after a fun 60 minutes of solving puzzles at Escape London, Shepherds Bush, in an escape room loosely based on 'Game of Thrones' called 'Overthrone'.

This was my first experience in any escape room, so I was going in blind. It was good to have a supportive team who were brimming with energy and had their eye on the prize, the King's throne.

As soon as we entered the room, we were given a brief by Escape London:

With no natural successor to the King the throne is up for grabs. He who raises the legendary Sword of Britain will take the throne. Legend has it that the wily old King has hidden the sword within the castle. You are first onto the scene, explore the castle and retrieve the sword before the pretenders arrive!

With 60 minutes on the clock, our team started searching and sorting through the escape room. We examined the loose items in the room, found few clues and pieced them together. In the initial few minutes, we managed to open the first lock.

Some things are kept just to distract you, so one needs to be able to make quick decisions and always move on to next bit when something's not working.

There were two additional small rooms attached to the main escape room, and when we found clues that opened those well hidden doors, it was quite a surprise.

There were two instances where I was impressed by the brilliance of the designer of the game!

I loved how the team worked together, in solving equations, discovering writings and color coded items and interpreting their meaning.

We made it out with 2 minutes to spare; not the best time, but for a beginner I was doing a happy dance!

If you, like me, have not been to an escape room before this is a brilliant starter room.
Escape London has two locations - one in Shadwell, and one in Shepherds Bush which I had the opportunity to visit. I must say the very first challenge for me was to find the location; though on the high street it was a bit tricky to find. The game overall, flowed well and was logical, and the room well designed imbibing few elements from 'Game of Thrones'. I recommend this for 3-4 people max, more would feel a bit crowded.  Another big thumbs up to the staff at Escape London - enthusiastic, supportive, and extremely friendly!

Eager to go back with friends and try the other rooms that Escape London offers.

Have you been to an escape game room before? Would love to hear about your experience!

This was a complimentary experience arranged by Love Popups London, but all views are my own honest opinion.
