Cheese Fondue, Zurich at night and Rhine Falls #SwitzerlandTravels Part 5

Read the #SwitzerlandTravels Part1, Part2, Part3 and Part4

As we boarded the train from Zermatt to Zurich, I couldn't help but feel a little heartache. Our serenade with the beautiful Swiss landscapes was about to end. This was no doubt one of the best travel experiences we had had, and we still had one more day to live it out.

We reached Zurich just in time to rush to restaurant Le Dezaley which is famous for its cheese fondue. It was just minutes before the closing time but the staff politely ushered us in and we quickly got to ordering. The cheese fondue was truly worth the hype and we also helped ourselves to one more dish and a glass of wine recommended by the staff.

After the perfect last Swiss dinner we strolled across the Limmat river in Zurich's night sky before heading to our hotel.

The next morning we took a train to Neuhausen station, which is on the right bank of the Rhine falls and then enjoyed a quite walk (3 km) through scenic landscapes to reach the renaissance old city of Schaffhausen.

The Rhine falls are not as majestic as Niagara falls but the cascades are thrilling nonetheless, and to be fair we didn't take the boat ride to the middle of the falls, nor did we go to the left banks, which is where one can go right up to the base of the falls. We did not fancy getting drenched and instead opted to walk around. This decision turned out to be absolutely delightful as we discovered the city of Schaffhausen.

Tip 6: One can make a good day trip from Zurich by combining the Rhine falls, tour of the midieval city of Schaffhausen and visiting the Munot castle for some excellent panoramic views and all of Rhine's curves.

The city was a wonderful surprise. The buildings were adorned with wall paintings and the medieval looking streets had fancy clocks and drinking fountains at every corner. This was a place untouched by time and I wish we could have stayed a tad bit longer.

It was however time to say our goodbyes. Carrying fond memories of Switzerland and promising to be back soon we ended our #SwitzerlandTravels here.
